Gallipoli: squads and Call-ins

Official Gallipoli screenshot

Gallipoli, the new title in the WW1 Game Series, lands on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S on August 20, 2026. The game leans hard into squad play: each squad is kitted out for a different purpose, some are best for scouting, others for capturing objectives, others for locking down an alleyway with suppressive fire. Nothing stops you from going off on your own, but staying with your squad and playing to your strengths gives you a real edge over an enemy that doesn’t.

Squad types

SquadRoleBonus slot
InfantryAll-rounder: ammo, suppressive fire, health support-
ScoutingIntel gathering and spotting+1 Sniper
SupportResupply for itself and other squads+1 Ammo Carrier, +1 Stretcher Bearer
AssaultExplosive charges, strong air support, mobility-
Machine GunLocks down an approach with a Heavy Machine Gun+1 Spotter

Even if a squad excels in a certain area, it still has slots for every class in the game, so it can hold its own outside its specialty too. You can switch squads mid-battle if you’re not deployed and another squad has an open slot.

Call-ins: off-map support

Officers can call in off-map tactical support. The type of support depends on your squad: scouting squads get more agile or intel-gathering Call-ins, assault squads get heavy bombardments that can clear an objective.

Shell types:

  • Airburst Shrapnel: air burst with shrapnel spread, ideal against exposed infantry
  • Mortar: many smaller explosions, less destructive but more numerous
  • Howitzer: a couple of larger explosions, more destructive but less frequent
  • Percussion Impact: delayed impact, stronger concussive effect and a cloud of dust that blocks vision

Barrage patterns:

NameDescriptionAvailability
Standing BarrageContinuous barrage saturating a wide areaEveryone
Creeping BarrageWalking barrage that advancesAttackers only
SOS BarrageDonut-shaped, called on your own positionDefenders only
Precision BarrageSmall salvo on static targets (e.g. machine gun nests)Everyone

There are also aircraft support options: Recon spots enemies over a large area, Strafing Run hits with aerial machine gun fire to suppress, and the Bomber drops grenades that roll before exploding (watch out for slopes).

Dust

Explosions kick up dust that blocks vision, same as grenades, but the more powerful Call-ins take it to another level. Even a Call-in that doesn’t land a single kill can still offer valuable tactical cover.

Beacons: advanced spawn points

Beacons are buildable structures that benefit any nearby ally, not just your own squad: ammo resupply, water for a temporary sprint speed boost, enemy detection in a small area. Each squad can only have one active Beacon at a time, and the enemy can destroy it, especially Engineers specialized in sabotage.

  • Attackers: anyone can build one, but doing so disables the existing one. You’ll be warned if there’s already an active one and how far away it is. Place it in a safe spot close to the front.
  • Defenders: one pre-placed Beacon per sector, halfway between the lines. It works as a forward spawn, which also makes it a priority target. Once destroyed, it can’t be rebuilt.

Bottom line

Staying with your squad, knowing which Call-in fits the moment, and protecting your Beacon are the three habits that separate a squad that wins from one that scatters across the field.
